Leith named 'one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world' by Time Out magazine

After the forced merger with the City of Edinburgh in the 1920s, Leith has become a thriving and popular area in the city. The Leith neighbourhood famously retains its characteristic identity and heritage, and Time Out magazine named Leith one of the ‘coolest neighbourhoods in the world’. So, what makes it so cool?

LEITH ON THE BIG SCREEN

Leith was famously the setting of the Trainspotting film in the late 90s. Unsurprisingly, there would be few who took to the area with a shine after the troublesome picture painted on the big screen.

In the following decades, a transformation has taken place. Leith is now home to, a variety of incredible bars, fabulous local food spots, art studios and entertainment, as well as four Michelin starred restaurants – Time Out recognizes a fierce sense of local identity as the driving force behind Leith’s resurgence.

WHY WE LOVE LEITH

Leith’s vibrant shoreline, and the surrounding neighbourhood, has flourished into a popular art and food hub, home to some of the top spots in the city.

With many studios in the area, Leith has attracted many talented artists and is now a creative hub within the city.

Similarly, Leith is now a known foodie favourite, with a range of brilliant restaurants. It’s home to the Pit Street Market, a casual pop-up style street-food market offering a variety of delicious food and drinks from independent vendors.

Leith also has a diverse range of high-end eateries, with the highest concentration of Michelin starred restaurants in Scotland.

Leith is also a well-connected district in the North of the city. The mile-long Leith Walk connects directly to the East end of Princess Street, making Leith easily commutable to the city centre, and other areas in Edinburgh, by bus, bike or by foot.

Whilst some may require a short commute, many others will enjoy working as well as living in Leith.

BUYING OR SELLING PROPERTY IN LEITH

Leith is a great, central location and, compared to other parts of Edinburgh, it’s certainly affordable. It offers a fantastic investment opportunity, as well as a great spot for home-buyers wishing to move to the area.

If you’re looking for your next home and Leith is at the top of your list, or you have a house to sell in the area, get in touch and one of our property consultants will guide you through the next steps or book you in for a free no-obligation valuation.
