A Guide to Creating Your Home Sanctuary this New Year

The beginning of a new year is a great time to focus on new ways in which you can prioritise positive habits, wellness and rejuvenation within your own home.  Check out what Gillian, the Lymphatic Facialist, has to say about creating a relaxing space within the comfort of your own home.

Self-care doesn’t have to mean expensive spa trips or lavish getaways. Instead, it’s about carving out a little corner of your home dedicated to peace and relaxation.

Finding What Works for You

Your home sanctuary can be anywhere that feels right for you.  For me it’s the bath.  There’s nothing like sinking into warm water after a long day. I set up my bath with a wooden tray to hold a book or a cup of tea, light a scented candle, and add some bubblesLaura Thomas products are a favourite I dim the lights, play calming music, and complete a simple five-step skincare routine.  It’s my time to unwind, let go of stress and recharge my energy.

However, ifyou’re not into baths or don’t have one in your home, no problem.  I suggest allocating a peaceful nook in your home, which will work just as well.  Choose a quiet spot and enhance it with soft lighting, a cosy blanket, and your favourite wellness tools. This can be your space for reading, meditating, or even just enjoying a moment of stillness. Even five minutes here can make a world of difference.  These small acts of self-care reflect the holistic approach I’ve embraced throughout my career.

The Power of Small Rituals

Incorporating self-care into your daily routine can be as easy as practicing a simple gua sha or lymphatic drainage massage. As the creator of the Lymphatic Method, I wanted to provide you with a quick three-step technique to help you feel relaxed and refreshed:

  1. Collarbone:  Lightly stroke down on either side of your collarbone 5–10 times to stimulate lymph nodes.
  2. Jawline & Ears:  Glide from your chin along your jawline toward your ears, then gently massage around your ears in small circles. Repeat 5–10 times.
  3. Under the Eyes:  Use light sweeps from the inner corners of your eyes outward toward your temples to reduce puffiness.

As someone deeply inspired by holistic beauty, I love blending techniques like these with good quality skincare to help my clients feel radiant on the outside and balanced on the inside.

Coulter’s Top Tips for Optimising Relaxing Spaces

Looking for more ways to create the ultimate home sanctuary? The property experts have a few extra tips if you are looking to promote positivity and relaxation in your house this new year.

  1. Embrace Nature:  Add houseplants to your space to purify the air and bring a touch of nature indoors. Plants like peace lilies, snake plants, or lavender can enhance the calming atmosphere.
  2. Scented Bliss:  Use essential oils or a diffuser with calming scents like lavender, chamomile, or sandalwood. Scents can have a profound impact on mood and relaxation.
  3. Declutter and Simplify:  A clutter-free space is a stress-free space. Organize your sanctuary to create a sense of order and calm.
  4. Comfort Matters:  Invest in soft textiles like plush cushions, throws, or a luxurious rug. These tactile elements enhance the cosy factor of any room.
  5. Digital Detox:  Make your allocated sanctuary a tech-free zone. Use this space to unplug, reconnect with yourself, and avoid distractions.

Self-care is about more than just pampering—it’s a commitment to your well-being. Creating a dedicated space for relaxation doesn’t have to take a lot of time or money, but it can have a profound impact on your mental and emotional health. Even small acts of self-care, like lighting a candle or reading a few pages of a book in your sanctuary, can help you feel more grounded and energized.

Take the time to build your own little haven at home this year. You deserve it!
